Gerhard Mack (born July 4, 1940 in Tübingen ) is a German theoretical physicist who deals with quantum field theory , elementary particle physics and lattice theory.

Mack received his doctorate in 1967 at the University of Bern and completed his habilitation in 1971 at the University of Munich . In 1972 he became an associate professor at the University of Bern. Since 1975 he has been a full professor at the 2nd Institute for Theoretical Physics at the University of Hamburg and also a theorist at DESY .

He is a member of the Academy of Sciences in Hamburg . 1974/75 he was at the Institute for Advanced Study .

From the 1970s he dealt with conformal field theories and models for testing confinement mechanisms, for which he investigated lattice theories in particular, including pietarines, from the late 1970s. In the 1990s he dealt, among other things, with quantum group symmetries and braid groups .

He also deals with complex systems, modeled according to gauge theories, for example in biology.

He published with Martin Lüscher , Kurt Symanzik and Abdus Salam (1969) , among others .

In 1981 he received the Klung Wilhelmy Weberbank Prize .
