Gerhard Theewen (* 1955 in Cologne ) is a German artist, author and publicist. Theewen lives and works in Cologne.

Life

During his studies at the Düsseldorf Art Academy with Klaus Rinke from 1977 to 1980, Theewen founded the art magazine Salon, a magazine with original articles (series of drawings, photographs, watercolors) by contemporary artists.

Even during his studies, he developed his own artistic work under the concept of "original reproduction". This expanded concept of art understands the reproduction of masterpieces of the 20th century (painting, photography and drawing) as a separate artistic process of creation. These original reproductions were the subject of several of his exhibitions.

Since that time, stimulated not least by Joseph Beuys ' idea of the expanded concept of art and social sculpture, he has expanded his spectrum to include lectures in art museums, lectures and teaching assignments at art colleges, writing essays on topics in the visual arts and editing publications on contemporary art. As a publishing artist, it is his intention that the design and content of the books he publishes are perceived as a portrait of the “artist as a disseminator of art”.
