Gerhard Wies

Gerhard Wies (born April 11, 1961 ) is a German disabled athlete .

Career

As a severely disabled, paraplegic wheelchair user , Wies became a member of the RSC Main Kinzig / Hessen sports club. Here he trained in the shot put, discus throw and javelin throw. His achievements were convincing, so that he could take part in the competitive competitions for disabled athletes in these disciplines. He became German javelin champion in 1999 and world champion in this discipline in 1998. He took part in the Paralympic Games in Sydney in 2000 and in Athens in 2004 . He won a bronze medal in 2000 and a silver medal in the shot put in class F 56 in 2004.

In 2001 he was awarded the Silver Laurel Leaf for his sporting successes .
