Gerlinde Spies

Gerlinde Spies (* 20th century ) is a former German fencer .

Career

Gerlinde Spies was already interested in fencing as a young girl. Therefore she became a member of the fencing club Hermannia Frankfurt . She chose foil fencing as a discipline within the fencing sport. She was soon one of the top performers in her club and was therefore used in the national championships in women's floret, both in women's singles and in team competitions. In the team competition , she won the German championship title with the team in 1951. At the German Fencing Championships in 1952 , she won second place in foil singles behind her club mate Lilo Allgayer and thus a silver medal.

For winning the German fencing team championship in 1951, she and all the team members received the silver laurel leaf from Federal President Theodor Heuss on December 7, 1951 .
