Fjalla-Eyvindur's refuge

The Herðubreiðarlindir ( Isl. Herðubreið quellen ) are an oasis in the Ódáðahraun lava field in Iceland .

This area is located about 5 km east of the eponymous tabular volcano Herðubreið in Norðurland eystra . The springs here collect in the Lindaá (Icelandic spring river ), which then flows into the Jökulsá á Fjöllum . Herðubreiðarlindir has been a nature reserve since 1974 . They are located north of the largest area of the Vatnajökull National Park , but are not part of it. Ferðafélag Akureyrar maintains the Þorsteinsskáli hut. The Öskjuleið LF88 runs through this area. This is the highland slope from the ring road to Askja in the highlands . Fjalla-Eyvindur is said to have lived around 100 m from the hut for a time in the 18th century . He was the most famous outlaw in Iceland and built his shelter over a small spring.
