The German International School Toronto (GIST for short, also German School Toronto) is the only German - speaking all - day school in the greater Toronto area . It is officially recognized as a German school abroad by the "Central Office for Schools Abroad" of the Federal Republic of Germany. As a ' meeting school ', it enables its students to transition smoothly into both the German and Canadian school systems .

Emergence

The school has existed since 2000. It began with a kindergarten group and a first class, on the basis of which a further class was set up every year. Since the 2007/2008 school year, the school has housed a kindergarten for three to five year olds and grades 1 to 8. In the future, the offer will be expanded to include grades 9 to 12, to include students with an internationally recognized qualification after grade 12 to be able to dismiss, which enables them to study at all universities worldwide.

Sponsorship

The school is run by the German School Toronto, a non-profit corporation registered in Ontario. Like the more than 140 other German schools abroad, the school is looked after personally and financially by the Federal Office of Administration . As part of this support, the Federal Republic is currently providing the headmistress.

classes

The primary school students are taught according to the Thuringian curriculum based on the Ontario curriculum . In the secondary classes from level 5, the lessons are based on the curriculum for Thuringian high schools. The program is also enriched with many Canadian topics. Furthermore, support programs are offered for non-English speaking students to facilitate the introduction to the foreign language. French is also taught from the 4th grade.
