The protected landscape component of the Sterbecker Aue with an area of 2.65 hectares lies in the area of the independent city of Hagen in North Rhine-Westphalia . The LB was designated in 1994 with the landscape plan of the city of Hagen by the city council of Hagen.

Protection purpose
According to the landscape plan, the designation was made “to ensure the efficiency of the natural balance by maintaining a habitat for the communities of streams, swamp areas and wet meadows and pastures as well as by preserving species-rich woody stands”.
