Protected part of the landscape, Volume Descent

The protected landscape component Volmeabstieg with an area size of 5  ha is located in the area of the independent city of Hagen in North Rhine-Westphalia . The LB was designated in 1994 with the landscape plan of the city of Hagen by the city council of Hagen.

description

Description in the landscape plan: “The protected part of the landscape lies between the Volmeabstieg street and Staplackstraße. It is a largely wood-free limestone quarry in the mass limestone of the Upper Middle Devonian. Is currently being backfilled, as well as an adjacent beech forest with a high proportion of undergrowth and a wood-free fallow area. In the quarry wall there are two entrances and in the forest adjoining to the north another entrance to partly extensive karst caves (Staplack cave, Hahnert cave, Weingarten cave). "

Protection purpose

According to the landscape plan, the designation was carried out "to ensure the efficiency of the natural balance by maintaining a steep wall section and a lean lime lawn as a habitat for warmth-loving animal and plant species, the valuable forest with fringing biotopes as a habitat for the characteristic animal and plant species of the beech forest as well as the caves and their accesses as a habitat for the specialized cave fauna and for structuring and enlivening the landscape by preserving distinctive and down-to-earth landscape elements.
