History in sources

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

History in Sources is a seven-volume source work that was edited by Wolfgang Lautemann and Manfred Schlenke with the advice of Helmut Beumann , Fritz Taeger and Fritz Wagner . The individual volumes were edited by Günter Schönbrunn, Fritz Dickmann , Walter Arend, Karlheinz Reif and Helmut Krause.

The respective extensive source edition was published by Bayerischer Schulbuch-Verlag . The participating editors were professors at the University of Marburg and teachers at the Marburg high school Martin-Luther-Schule . The work began in 1955, the first volumes appeared in 1962, 1965 and 1966, the other volumes in 1978, 1980 and 1981 after an interruption of more than 10 years.

Consistent commentary on the sources is deliberately avoided; instead, there are short introductions to the sub-chapters and - where necessary - comments on the individual sources. In addition to a historically interested audience, this set of documents is primarily aimed at a school audience and was intended for use in schools.

Appreciation

In his review of the edition on the occasion of the publication of the second volume "Middle Ages: Empire and Church" in the series, Friedrich Andrae formulated in the weekly newspaper, Die Zeit :

"A school book? That too! No school, no history teacher should do without this excellent tool for vivid and lively teaching. But more than that: like the earlier volumes, this one is again a real reader for anyone who not only wants to study history secondhand, but also wants to relive it. "
