The Geschwister-Scholl-Realschule in Essen-Borbeck was founded in 1925 as a boys 'and girls' secondary school. The “higher school” was intended to give girls in particular access to higher-quality jobs, for example in the middle post and telegraph service, in the railway service, a career as a kindergarten teacher or even a trade teacher. The threat of denomination was prevented by a parental vote in 1926; parity remained .
Bomb warfare and deportation to Kinderland made teaching impossible during World War II .
The separation into a girls 'middle school and boys' school took place in 1949. In 1952 the middle school became a girls' secondary school. In 1955 a new building was built. In the meantime, it has become a mixed secondary school again, and in 1978 the school took the name Geschwister-Scholl-Schule, secondary school for boys and girls .
