Society for Thrombosis and Hemostasis Research

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Society for Thrombosis and Haemostasis Research (GTH) is a non-profit, interdisciplinary German-Austrian-Swiss scientific society with the aim of promoting the scientific interests of blood coagulation research. The office is in Cologne (previously Hanover), the association register entry at the Munich District Court, the tax number at the Frankfurt am Main tax office.

history

The forerunner is the German Association for Blood Coagulation Research (DAB). It was founded in November 1956 in Koblenz. The common denominator of the participating West and East Germans, Austrians and Swiss was to set up a discussion forum in the form of a "working group of specialists who work in the field of blood coagulation". As the group and its field of activity grew, the aim was to become an open society modeled on the International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis (ISTH). The necessary changes to the statutes were drawn up between 1979 and 1982. Innovations were more accentuated "internationality, easier access to membership, election of the chairperson for only 4 years and congresses according to international standards". From 1980 to 1982 alternating congresses for thrombosis and blood coagulation and meetings of the DAB took place. In 1982 the current GTH was finally established. She is a member of the Working Group of Scientific Medical Societies . In 2012 the GTH had 634 members.

Tasks and structures

The main focus of the work is the topic-specific standing commissions and working groups as well as research funding and further education. Every year there is an annual conference with lectures and poster presentations at different locations. In 2011 there were 1,220 visitors to the specialist congress. Prizes and grants are awarded to researchers in the field of thrombosis and hemostasis research and presented at the congress.
