Dennis Melander (born January 19, 1983 ) is a Swedish football player . The defender played for Trelleborgs FF since his professional debut from 2002 to 2012 in over 200 games in the Allsvenskan and the Superettan .

Career

Melander started playing football in the youth of Trelleborg FF. After going through the individual junior teams there, he moved up to the men's squad after the club's relegation at the end of the Allsvenskan season in 2001 . He quickly established himself in the team around Kristian Haynes , Peter Abelsson , Pål Lundin and Patrik Svensson and played 25 of the 30 league games in the 2002 second division season by the end of the season . After a cartilage injury in his knee, because of which the end of his career was predicted, he missed the following season, but fought his way back into the squad of the competition team from autumn 2003. As a result, he made his debut for the team, which had meanwhile been promoted back to the Allsvenskan, during the 2004 season in the first division. He quickly moved into the focus of those responsible at Svenska Fotbollförbundet for the Swedish U-21 national team . After the end of April for the younger born in the 2: 0 win over Croatia with a goal by Martin Fribrock and an own goal debuted, he moved to a violation of Martin Andersson in the squad of the older age group of national coach Torbjörn Nilsson for the U- 21 European Championship 2004 after. In the final group game against Switzerland - with a 3-1 victory, the selection team secured the semi-finals as group winners - he came to his only tournament appearance, as a tournament fourth, the selection then narrowly missed participation in the Olympic Games in Athens in the same year.

At the end of 2004 Melander got down with Trelleborgs FF directly from the Allsvenskan. In the following second division season he established himself again as a regular player and returned with the team at the end of the second division season in 2006 back to the top division. Although repeatedly slowed down by injuries and wounds - including a strange failure when he injured himself on his own sofa while watching a film - he advanced to become the team captain of the Skåne club . In mid-April 2011 an injury stopped him again, which put him out of action for several weeks. Although he returned in early July, he was injured again after three games. In total, he came to nine season appearances and was missing the team around Joakim Nilsson , Marcus Pode , Mattias Adelstam and Magnus Andersson in the fight for relegation, so that they ended the 2011 season as penultimate on a relegation place. In the following season, with 21 season appearances, mostly regular players and team captain at the southern Swedish club, but this remained unsuccessful in the Superettan and slipped straight into the third-class Division 1 .

At first Melander was then without a contract, before he joined the local rivals IFK Trelleborg in the fifth-highest division at the end of March 2013 with a one-year contract .
