Martin Andersson (born January 16, 1981 ) is a Swedish football player . The defender , who has played for IF Elfsborg since 1997 , won the Swedish championship twice with the club.

Career

Andersson began playing football at Arentorps SK . In 1997 he moved to IF Elfsborg , where he initially played mainly in the youth field. At the same time he played his way into the Swedish youth national teams. In 2000, Torbjörn Nilsson finally appointed him to the Swedish U-21 team , in which he ran irregularly in the following years on the side of Nils-Eric Johansson , Mikael Dorsin , Christian Wilhelmsson and Jimmy Tamandi .

In 2000 Andersson moved up to his club in the competition team, but had to wait until the end of May 2001 for his debut in the Allsvenskan . Initially still a substitute player, he came on as a substitute in the final of the Swedish National Cup against AIK . Substitute in extra time, he shot in the penalty shoot his penalty. That wasn't the only missed shot , however, so IF Elfsborg won the title after Johan Wiland's penalty saved by Sharbel Touma - the seventh missed penalty in a penalty shootout. In the following years Andersson established himself in the defense line of the club from Borås , but repeatedly slowed him down various injuries. After reaching the final again in the 2003 cup competition, however, this time he was in the starting line-up when Lars Nilsson scored two goals against Assyriska Föreningen to win again.

Originally intended for the squad for the U-21 European Championship in 2004 , Andersson had to cancel his participation due to injury. Still not free of injuries in the following, he only made 19 appearances in the 2006 season , in which the club won the championship title. Under coach Magnus Haglund , he became a key player over time and succeeded Anders Svensson as team captain in October of the following year . As a result, the club extended his contract in April of the following year until the end of 2012. However, the following time was unhappy for him, various injuries slowed him down regularly. In the 2011 season , he only played six season games. A knee injury prevented a game at the beginning of the following season, his central defenders Daniel Mobaeck and Andreas Augustsson were also out and the Norwegian Joackim Jørgensen, who was newly signed as a defensive midfielder, briefly moved into the defense chain. In the summer he returned to team training, but had meanwhile moved into the second tier. Accordingly, he remained without a stake when he won the championship again at the end of the 2012 season .
