Pål Lundin

Pål Mikael Lundin (born November 21, 1964 in Osby ) is a former Swedish football goalkeeper .

Life

Lundin was a long-time keeper at Östers IF from Växjö and had completed 190 league games for this club before moving to England in 1999 for Oxford United . There he was used 27 times in his only season abroad. Lundin was considered one of the best Swedish goalkeepers of his generation, but could neither achieve great success nor ever slip on the jersey of the national team. Lundin ended his career in 2003 at Trelleborgs FF, for which he had played 46 league games in two seasons. Today Lundin lives as a craftsman in his hometown Osby, is married, has three children and is a goalkeeping coach at the local football club IFK Osby .

Trivia

As Lundin himself has reported several times, national coach Tommy Svensson called him on Easter Sunday 1991 and invited him to an international match against Austria. Lundin thought it was a joke and hung up. Lundin also choked off a second call from Svensson. Lundin only believed the story when his then team triner called him and took him to the airport in person. In the game against Austria, however, Lundin only sat on the bench - according to his own account, he was severely hungover. Even with a further nomination in 1992, Lundin remained without commitment.
