Brett Speirs (born January 5, 1983 in Hamilton ) is a former New Zealand ice hockey player who has played for the Canterbury Red Devils in the New Zealand Ice Hockey League since 2013 .

Career

Brett Speirs began his career as a hockey player with the Southern Stampede , for which he made his debut in 2005 in the then newly formed New Zealand Ice Hockey League . In the first two years he was able to win the New Zealand championship title with his team. After he was runner- up with the Queenstown team in 2009, 2011 and 2012, he moved to the reigning champions Canterbury Red Devils in Christchurch in 2013 , with whom he immediately became champions again. After winning the title in 2014, he ended his career in 2015.

International

With the New Zealand national team Speirs participated in the World Championships of Division II in 2004 , 2005 , 2006 , 2008 , 2010 , when he was voted best player of his team, in 2011 and 2013, and Division III in 2007 and 2009 , when he was behind the Luxembourgish Robert Beran second best scorer and, together with the Turkish Emrah Özmen, was also second best scorer behind Beran and was also named the best striker of the tournament.
