Society for the management of film and television rights

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Society for the Perception of Film and Television Rights mbH (GWFF) is a German collecting society founded in 1982 and based in Munich .

Areas of activity

The activities of the GWFF are subject to the Collecting Societies Act . The supervisory authority of the collecting societies is the German Patent and Trademark Office in Munich.

Rights holders for whom the GWFF claims royalties are film producers and other authors of films. Due to technical developments (mass distribution, internet, etc.), authors can often no longer assert the options for using the rights of their film and television works themselves, as they often lack an overview of where and by whom their works are used. The GWFF receives remuneration from those who use the intellectual property of the producers and film authors and distributes this money to those who are entitled to it.

In 2006, the GWFF generated revenues from rights management of around EUR 62.5 million.

The authors of films and thus recipients of the royalties distributed by the GWFF are film producers, television producers, film authors, producers of dubbed versions, videogram manufacturers and actors.
