Society dogs are dogs that serve humans for society (as social partners). This term also includes various breeds of dogs that traditionally mostly had or have the function of companion dogs and were bred as such.

It is difficult to distinguish between the dog's utility and social function , since almost every dog used as a working dog has a social function for its owner in addition to its main tasks. In addition, the main function of a breed changes over time.
