Please note the note on the applicable legal version.

The Population Statistics Act ( BevStatG ) regulates federal statistics in order to determine the changes in the number and composition of the population and their causes.

The law consists of eight paragraphs that determine four statistics in Germany:

  1. the statistics of the natural population movement including the cause of death statistics ,
  2. the statistics of legally binding resolutions in matters of dissolution of marriage,
  3. the statistics of the legally binding dissolution of civil partnerships,
  4. the migration statistics and
  5. the update of the population.

In 2013, the Population Statistics Act was reformed. The new version came into force on January 1, 2014 ( Section 7 of the Act).
