Getty Thesaurus of Geographic Names

The Thesaurus of Geographic Names (TGN) is a database of around 1,000,000 names for around 900,000 locations. It is published by the Getty Research Institute .

The thesaurus covers the entire world in current and historical in both geophysical and geopolitical hierarchies. In addition to the names, coordinates, location types, location descriptions and other information are saved. The thesaurus has been made available as Linked Open Data since 2014 .
