Giacomina Castagnetti (born November 11, 1925 in Roncolo di Quattro Castella ( RE )) is an Italian former communist resistance fighter against National Socialism and Italian fascism . She is a contemporary witness who is still present in public today .

biography

Castagnetti comes from an anti-fascist family and grew up with six older brothers. From the experience of the elder brother's arrest and reports of his torture in custody and the experience of further monitoring the "badly marked person", she developed "a desire to do something." At the age of 14 she started collecting money and food for the persecuted in an illegal network for the Soccorso Rosso , the Italian left-wing Red Aid. At 15 she became a member of the Communist Party .

After September 8, 1943, she joined the resistance ( Resistenza ) and became a member of the women's defense units ( Gruppi di Defesa della Donna ), which were essential for supporting the partisans . Giacomina Castagnetti worked as a relay in the area of San Martino in Rio (RE) and transported money, clothing, weapons and information to the mountains. After smaller groups of partisans had come from there to the Po Valley to carry out resistance actions, they and their fellow combatants contributed to this by providing information on locations and the presence of the German occupation forces and the fascist units allied with them.

After the liberation, she became involved in the women's organization Unione Donne in Italia (UDI) beyond the PCI , where she assumed regional functions. In the development of an emancipatory kindergarten pedagogy in Italy ( Reggio pedagogy ), she was an important source of inspiration.

Today Giacomina Castagnetti lives in Castelnovo né Monti (RE). She is active as a contemporary witness in the Reggio Emilia region (RE) and also at events in Germany .
