Gable ear or gable shoulder is the end of the eaves to the gable , often also the transition from the eaves cornice to the gable cornice or verge cornice .

Seen from the gable it is its extension to the eaves. The gable ear is used for weather protection, but is also used for architectural design.

In carpentry, it is usually designed as a vertical cladding at the end of the eaves box. In brick construction, it is often created as stepped masonry.
