history

A Count Biso von Gieboldehausen is mentioned for the middle of the 10th century at the time of Pope Martinus, he is said to have donated relics of St. Laurence to the church in Gieboldehausen. No count family is known for Gieboldehausen, but he was probably count in Liesgau.

It is not known whether members of the von Gieboldehausen family belonged to the castle occupation of Burg Gieboldehausen before the 13th century due to the lack of documents. They probably moved early to Duderstadt , where they are first mentioned and where they lived. The gentlemen of Gieboldehausen were last mentioned in 1524 when they were accepted into the brotherhood of the Gerode monastery .
