Giant tricycle

An oversized American three-wheeler , which was presented in 1896, is called a giant tricycle or giant tricycle . The vehicle was developed for advertising purposes for VIM pneumatic tires. Eight men were required to move the “mechanical megalomania”, four on each side driving a wheel via cranks, one driver steered. The length of this monster is given as 17 feet (5.18 m), the rear wheels 11 feet (3.35 m) in diameter and the front wheel 6 feet (1.82 m) in diameter. The weight of this monster was estimated at 1.5 tons. For testing and advertising purposes, the monster was moved 25 miles from Boston to Brockton and then to Concord . A ride on Coney Island to open a bike path could not take place due to the altitude; overhanging trees obstructed the route.
