Gil Semedo
Gil Semedo Moreira (born October 25, 1974 ) is a Cape Verdean singer and composer who emigrated at the age of six and grew up in the Netherlands. He is hardly known in Germany.
In 1989, at the age of 15, he reached the finals of the " Henny Huisman Sound Mix Show". First album Menina (Girls) with Gil & the Perfect 2 . In 1999 he survived a car accident in which he lost a foot.
The single Sweet Honey became a hit, the video produced by Rick Arnold ran worldwide.
With over 500,000 albums sold, Gil is one of the most successful lusophone African artists. In 2003 he performed at the Gamboa Festival in Praia and delighted more than 100,000 fans. Well-known musicians such as DABS , Johnny Fonseca , Grace Évora and Dina Medina participated in the new album, which was recorded in Holland, Portugal and France .
His music is a mixture of traditional music styles from Cape Verde, such as Coladeira , Funaná , Batuque and modern music styles such as Zouk , Kizomba , Pop and R&B.
