Gillis Lundgren

Leif Gillis Arthur Lundgren (born August 26, 1929 in Lund - † February 25, 2016 ) was a Swedish commercial artist and furniture designer .

Lundgren started at Ikea in 1953 as the fourth employee and is considered the inventor of prefabricated furniture that can be assembled. In 1955, Lundgren wanted to package a table, unscrewed the legs and added them in order to ship the table as efficiently as possible. In 1979 he designed the "Billy" shelf , which has since been sold more than 41 million times worldwide. He also designed the “Ögla” chair, the “Tore” drawer element and the “Frosta” stool.
