from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Gindanes ( Greek  Γίνδανες or Γινδᾶνες ) were a people named by Herodotus in Libya , who lived west of the Makai and east of the Nasamonen on the Great Syrte . According to Herodotus, the lotophages are said to have lived on a headland of the land of the Gindanes to the north .

According to Herodotus, the women of the Gindanes had a habit of putting a leather thong around their ankle for every man with whom they had sexual intercourse. The most respected was the woman who wore the most ribbons as she was loved by most men.
