ginlo is an encrypted, data security-oriented instant messaging service for private individuals and companies. After an interruption in the availability of the apps at the end of 2019, due to the insolvency of the former operator Brabbler AG, ginlo has been fully available again since February 2020 and has been operated and developed by the newly founded ginlo.net GmbH since then.

history

Publication by Brabbler AG

ginlo started the beta phase for private users in 2017. Ginlo was developed by Brabbler Secure Message and Data Exchange AG, which was founded in 2015 by GMX founders Karsten Schramm, Eric Dolatre and Peter Köhnkow together with Jörg Sellmann.

In January 2018, a paid version for companies was published with ginlo @work (later ginlo Business).

Takeover of SIMSme

On March 13, 2019 it was announced that Brabbler AG would take over the competitor SIMSme from Deutsche Post AG . In the course of this, the latter took a 10% stake in Brabbler AG. SIMSme was a cross-platform instant messaging service published by Deutsche Post AG in 2014. SIMSme came in two versions, a free version for private users and a paid version for business users, which refinanced the free service.

The SIMSme brand was transferred to the ginlo brand family in June 2019.

For the hosting of ginlo, like SIMSme before, servers in Germany are used.

Brabbler AG insolvency

On November 5, Brabbler AG announced that the service would be discontinued at the end of 2019 as no investor was found. The Munich District Court (Insolvency Court) opened insolvency proceedings on the company's assets with a resolution dated October 31, 2019 and ordered self -administration.

Takeover by ginlo GmbH

The ginlo Gesellschaft für Datenkommunikationsdienste mbH has been the operator of the service since February 2020.
