Giovanni Domenico Ripalta

Giovanni Domenico Ripalta (* 16th century in Monza ; † 17th century there) was an Italian organist and composer .

life and work

Giovanni Domenico Ripalta was Kapellmeister and organist at the Church of S. Giovanni Battista in Monza in the second half of the 16th century . In the years around 1570 he reached the height of his fame as an organist. At that time, King Henry III heard him . from France in Monza and tried to persuade him to relocate to France. Out of love for his native city, Ripalta turned down this offer and worked in Monza until his death.

Ripalta composed several masses . A mass for five voices was printed in Milan in 1629. One of his students was the organist and composer Francesco della Porta .
