Giric
Giric mac Dungail (* 9th century; † 889 ) was the Scottish king from 878 to 889 and ruled together with his nephew Eochaid .
Life
According to the Tanistry system, Eochaid could not become king because he was descended from the daughter of the royal line. However, since he had ambitions for the title of king, he allied himself with Giric in order to forcibly oust his uncle and Giric's cousin Aedh from power. Giric then forced Eochaid to share the rule with him.
Little is known about the life and reign of Giric. The only certain information is that he was killed by his nephew Donald in a battle near Dundurn in Perthshire . This then banished Eochaid into exile and ascended the throne as Donald II .
