Givʿati Brigade
The Giv'ati Brigade ( Hebrew חטיבת גבעתי Chativat Giv'ati , from "Giv'at" = hill, so "Highland Brigade") is an infantry brigade of the Israel Defense Forces .
It was formed in December 1947 and placed under the command of Shimon Avidan . She took part in both Operation Nachshon , in which Avidan was in command, as well as Operation Jo'av (October 15-22 , 1948). Their task here was to occupy the realms of Hulikat , Kawkaba, and that branch that is now known as the "Giv'ati Branch". It was later disbanded. Well-known commanders of the brigade were Juval Ne'eman , Chaim Bar-Lew , Matti Peled (temporarily deputy commander) and Tzwi Zamir .
In 1983 a new brigade of the same name was set up. Since 1999 she has been under the Southern Command . Giv'ati soldiers are identified by purple berets . The symbol of the brigade is the fox.
