Glandulocaudinae
The division of living beings into systematics is a continuous subject of research. Different systematic classifications exist side by side and one after the other. The taxon treated here has become obsolete due to new research or is not part of the group systematics presented in the German-language Wikipedia.
A subfamily of the real tetras (Characidae), which is no longer valid (recognized), was designated as Glandulocaudinae . The Glandulocaudinae went after a revision of the Characidae in the newly created subfamily Stevardiinae .
features
The Glandulocaudinae were named after a common feature, a gland (glandulum) on the caudal peduncle or shortly before the caudal fin (caudal) of the males. Some species have internal insemination. The males transmit a sperm packet (Spermatozeugma), which can be stored in the females and with which the eggs deposited without males are fertilized.
Gandulocaudinae live from Costa Rica and Trinidad to South America , with their main distribution area being in southern South America.
Systematics
19 genera and about 50 species were placed in the subfamily.
