Glanzfilm AG was founded in 1905 in the Berlin district of Köpenick and produced film material.

history

The Glanzfilm AG was located on the 37,600 m² area of the Krusenick peninsula . There are contradictions with regard to the founding dates, for example 1923 is also mentioned as the year of foundation of the photo-chemical plant Glanzfilm AG Köpenick. In 1923 a subsidiary of the artificial silk manufacturer Vereinigte Glanzstoff-Fabriken AG from Elberfeld was founded.

The company Glanzfilm AG Köpenick worked for years at a loss, so it was sold to the Kodak photo group in 1927 and was henceforth called Kodak AG, Werk Köpenick.

George Eastman and his company Kodak settled on the Müggelspree in 1929 , which gradually changed the appearance of the town. Products included black and white photography films, X-ray films, and chemical products for processing.

In 1941 the Kodak factories were confiscated as enemy assets. After the war, the Soviet occupying power confiscated the plant. For a few years it was continued under the name Kodak AG Filmfabrik Köpenick, in 1956 it was named VEB Fotochemische Werke Köpenick (FCW) . It continued to produce X-ray films , black and white films and photo paper, as well as chemicals.

In 1992 the film factory was returned to Kodak. This was only possible after German reunification. However, digital technology developed so quickly that the plant had to be closed, with the exception of X-ray film production (X-ray retina). In 2010 Kodak finally ceased operations completely.

Current

A residential complex is currently being built on the site, partly using the factory from the 1920s. The former plant is now a listed building.
