Glass Palace Chronicle

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Glass Palace Chronicle ( Hmannan Yazawin ) is a historical work from Myanmar (Burma).

The work was commissioned by King Bagyidaw (ruled 1819–1837) in 1829 and is a chronicle of the Burmese rulers. The name of the work refers to the glass palace in which the work was written. The work is an important source for the history of the country, but it also shows strong intermingling with mythical motifs. It is based on other Burmese chronicles but is considered the most important.
