founding

Glassdoor was founded in 2007 by Tim Besse, Rich Barton (Chairman) and Robert Hohman (CEO). The company's headquarters are in Mill Valley , California and the company has European offices in London and Dublin .

Website

In June 2008, Glassdoor launched its employer reviews website, which, according to Techcrunch, “collects anonymous reviews and salaries from employees at large companies and publishes them anonymously so that they can be seen by all users”. Glassdoor then averaged the posted salaries and displayed them on the website alongside employee reviews of their employer's management and culture. Among the rated companies were companies like Tech among other major Google and Yahoo . Posting other media, such as B. Photos, is possible on the website.

Glassdoor later began to focus on CEOs and jobs, as well as the overall work experience for a particular company. Reviews on Glassdoor are written by users and the overall rating of an employer is the average of these reviews written by users. Every year, Glassdoor ranks the companies with the highest overall rating to award the Glassdoor Employee Satisfaction Award, also known as Best Workplaces. The requirements for the awards are different for large and small companies in order to ensure the anonymity of the users employed by smaller companies.

In 2010, Glassdoor launched a paid feature called “Extended Employer Profile”. This enables employers to post their own content on their profile on Glassdoor, such as: B. Biographies of their executives, job advertisements, links to social media and recommendations.

Users can also post interview questions on Glassdoor that were asked during an interview at a specific company and other information that can help job seekers with an application.

In 2015, Glassdoor had 30 million users from 190 different countries, and a third of all Fortune 500 companies were Glassdoor customers. That year, Glassdoor also began expanding internationally by providing a localized version of the website and app, e.g. B. in Germany and Austria .

In September 2016, Glassdoor acquired the Brazilian company Love Mondays to establish its international presence in Latin America .

Work-life balance, salary comparisons, lists of the best offices and corporate cultures, and the accuracy of maxims regarding job search. Glassdoor data has also been used by third parties in the past to analyze the effects of salary trends on fluctuations in company sales.
