Gleidorf (desert)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The old village of Gleidorf , not to be confused with Gleidorf , is a desolate place in the Schmallenberg area in the Hochsauerlandkreis ( North Rhine-Westphalia ).

The place was probably above Humboldinghausen in the Gleierbachtal , in the former field in the Gleidorf . The place was mentioned in 1072 in the charter of the monastery Grafschaft . In 1490 and 1515, at least five farms were mentioned in the county parish church's measurement port registers before the place fell into desolation. Around 1500 three of them belonged to the monastery and one was mentioned as the town guth . The desolation of the settlement began around 1450; At the end of the 15th century, all farms in Gleidorf were managed by citizens from Schmallenberg. After the fall of the desert, the courtyards split up; in 1515 two owners were named for three farms and three for the fourth farm. Afterwards there were several disputes between the monastery and the town of Schmallenberg over the land. According to a comparison from 1527, the Gleidorf Hövelinge living in Schmallenberg should win the farms on a lease every seven years. The Gleidorf district was still managed from Schmallenberg in the 20th century. The monastery built a house with a raw steel hammer around 1800 in Gleidorf .

Like many other places, the place fell victim to the great desolation process in the late Middle Ages . It must have been a creeping, slow process. The downfall of this urban settlement is probably connected with the development of the urban center of Schmallenberg. Another reason was plague epidemics and the need of the residents to seek refuge in the city.
