Glacier boulders
The three glacier boulders that bear the name "Freedom, Equality, Fraternity" represent a work of art by the artist Anatol Herzfeld and are located in front of the town hall of the district town of Bergheim in the Rhein-Erft district in North Rhine-Westphalia .
history
Beuys' student Anatol Herzfeld used three glacier boulders , each weighing 20 tons, from the Inn Valley for his work of art. He worked on the three huge granite blocks as part of the French-German Week in August 1989, when the outbreak of the French Revolution was remembered as a world historical event in Bergheim . The figures carved into the stone blocks are dedicated to the theme of "Liberty, Equality and Fraternity", the ideals of the French Revolution.
