The Global Atmospheric Research Program (GARP) was an international research program that ran from 1967 to 1982.

The World Meteorological Organization and the International Council of Scientific Unions were in charge, and Jule Charney was in the chair . The main experiments carried out as part of this research program include the GARP Atlantic Tropical Experiment from 1974 and the ALPine EXperiment (ALPEX) from 1982. Supported by 40 ships and 13 aircraft, over 4,000 researchers were involved in the project.

The use of earth observation satellites and computers, with the help of which global flow patterns were simulated for the first time, were groundbreaking. The results of the experiments carried out significantly improved the quality of the numerical weather forecast .
