Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease
The Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease ( GOLD ), German: Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Lung Diseases , was launched in 1997 by the World Health Organization ( WHO ) and the National Institute of Health ( NIH ) in order to optimize the diagnosis process worldwide To implement treatment and prevention of the largely unknown widespread disease COPD .
The GOLD aims to
- To recommend globally valid strategies for dealing with COPD and its avoidance
- Draw the attention of the medical community , health policymakers and the general public to the fact that COPD is a health problem of general concern
- Reduce the incidence and mortality of this disease by deploying and evaluating effective programs to diagnose and treat COPD
- Promote a scientific debate to answer the question of why COPD is on the rise, including the relationship to environmental factors
