The global aphasia is the most severe form of aphasia (language disorder).
causes
The cause is a lesion in the brain , especially the language centers ( Wernicke center , Broca center ) are usually badly affected. The causes of the lesion are usually traumatic brain injuries as a result of severe head injuries, tumors or strokes .
Characteristics
Patients with global aphasia have severe speech comprehension and production disorders. However, these communication problems should not be confused with mental illness; global aphasia has no direct influence on the state of mind. Global apists can only be unable to communicate when fully conscious. However, indirect consequences such as depression or social isolation are common.
therapy
The usual therapy is speech therapy , which can be media-supported if necessary. However, success, if at all, can only be expected after a long period of therapy. Other therapy methods that are particularly intended to help against side effects such as depression and social isolation are music therapy and painting therapy .
