The bell foundry tower in 1843

The bell foundry tower was a gate tower of the Lübeck city fortifications .

It was a tower that was probably built in the 13th century when the city wall was being built and was first mentioned in 1459 during renovation work . The location of the tower with the gate passage was below Glockengießerstrasse not far from the banks of the Wakenitz . The simple tower with a square floor plan did not serve as a passage for a road connection, but only for access to the river bank. In 1857 the bell foundry tower was removed; no remains have been preserved.
