Carillon (Celle)
The Celle glockenspiel plays on Poststrasse every day at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. Before that, the glockenspiel, created in 1973, played at the house of the jeweler Schnell on the market. After closing the jewelry store and selling the house in 2005, the city of Celle took over the carillon and installed it at its current location, where it has been sounding since 2010.
The 16 bronze bells, made by the company Korfhage & Sons from Melle , play melodies like u. a. “In the wide world”, “Up, up, to the happy hunt”, “Three birch trees on the heath” or “ Joy of beautiful spark of gods ”. In the Advent carols are played. The carillon can also be played manually with a keyboard .
The carillon includes a set of 5 figures carved out of wood by the Northeim sculptor Hans-Hasso Korn-Hohenhau . They represent the following personalities from the history of Celle:
- Duke Otto the Strict (city founder)
- Duke Ernst the Confessor (reformer)
- Queen Caroline Mathilde (Danish Queen)
- Ludwig Hölty (poet)
- Hermann Löns (writer)
From November to March the circulation of the figures is shut down to prevent damage from weather and moisture. The entire system weighs 570 kg.
