Glycerius (Milan)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Glycerius († September 15, 438 in Milan ) was Archbishop of Milan and is a saint of the Roman Catholic Church . He is not to be confused with the Roman emperor of the same name .

Life

Almost nothing is known about the life of Glycerius. Presumably he was a teacher of the Western Roman emperor Valentinian III during his episcopate . Before his time as Archbishop he was already a deacon in Milan. In 436 Glycerius became Archbishop of Milan. He spent most of his episcopate not in Milan, but in Antioch .

Glycerius is venerated today as a saint. Since the feast of St. Nicomedes is celebrated on the day of his death , his feast day was moved to September 20th. Glycerius' tomb is in the Church of San Nazaro in Brolo, Milan.
