Nicomedes (saint)

Saint Nicomedes was a Roman martyr whose exact lifetime is unknown.

His grave is on the Via Nomentana in Rome, above which a Cömeterialkirche was built early on .

According to legend, Nicomedes was a priest and disciple of St. Peter and is said to have assisted St. Petronilla in her agony. He was slain under Domitian . The Nicomedes Catacomb in Rome is given as the grave . The head of Nicomedes is said to have been kept first in the church of St. Nikomed (Mainz) , later in the church of the Benedictine monastery of St. Jakob in Mainz .

Adoration

The feast day of the saint is September 15th .

The church of St. Nicomedes (Borghorst) is dedicated to him.
