Gnepfe

Gnepfen as stamp mill in Japan

A Gnepfe (also called a water tank) is a discontinuously working water power machine (as an alternative to the water wheels that continuously exert force or torque ).

How it works: A container (bucket / bowl) at one end of the bar (rocker) is filled with water in the upper position. The tank side becomes overweight due to the water that has run in, the bar then moves down with the filled tank and can do work in the process. In the lower position, the container is emptied and the bar moves up again.

With this principle, simple machine drives can be implemented with limited efficiency . The linear movement can be particularly well with a corresponding movement of the machine, such as for stamp mills , hammer mills , sawmills use etc..
