Gojūshiho Shō

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Gojūshiho Shō ( Japanese五十 四 歩 小, Small [Kata of] 54 steps ) is an advanced master kata in Shōtōkan Karate .

Various factors such as the extreme length, the complex defense and foot techniques result in a very high level of difficulty. Therefore, this kata is only recommended after a long karate practice. It is also very aesthetic and therefore a popular competition kata. The Gojūshiho Shō loads and trains especially the right leg with the Zenkutsu-Dachi stand , in contrast to the Gojūshiho Dai .

Gojūshiho Shō goes back to the master Itosu Ankō , who was also one of Funakoshi's teachers .
