Goldberg (hall)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Goldberg is an elevation in the northeastern urban area of Halle (Saale) in the Mötzig district .

The survey has been known as Goldberg since around 1750; It probably got its name because local residents suspected that treasures were buried there. The area on and around the Goldberg was used as a sand pit in the past.

At the beginning of the 20th century, old burial sites were discovered during excavations on the Goldberg . These consisted of porphyry stone boxes containing urns adorned with string and perforated stone hammers as gifts.

In the center of the elevation is a former manor with a main house and ancillary buildings. From 1944 to 1945, the Birkhahn subcamp was located northeast of Goldberg in the immediate vicinity . The buildings of the former estate were used as a transit home for youth work yards and special children's homes for difficult-to-educate children until the fall of the Wall . In 1990 the transit home was closed and the buildings were empty until 1993. From 1993 they initially housed a rehabilitation project to integrate former offenders and later a women's refuge . Since 1993 there has been a park, a nature trail, several animal enclosures, bird aviaries, a pet cemetery, a cottage garden and various small biotopes on the site. These facilities are operated by the German Paritätischer Wohlfahrtsverband , Landesverband Sachsen-Anhalt , which looks after, employs and supports disadvantaged people in the buildings of the former estate. The garden association “Am Goldberg” eV is also located on the Goldberg. In 1995, the Goldberg, with an area of 16 hectares, was declared a protected part of the landscape .
