The golden medal “sickle and hammer” ( Romanian Medalia de aur secera si ciocanul ) was a state award of the Socialist Republic of Romania . The foundation took place on September 28, 1951 by Decree 168 of the Council of State ( Consiliul de stat ). The statutes were published in the Romanian State Gazette ( Buletinul oficial ) No. 97. The medal was awarded for personal merits in the context of the work in building socialism in Romania for outstanding achievements. This was previously recognized with the (honorary) title “ Hero of Socialist Work ” donated on May 6, 1951 . With the award of the title, the subsequent award of the gold medal was connected.

Appearance and wearing style

The medal in the form of a golden five-pointed star made of fine gold shows the embossed and crossed symbols of hammer and sickle . The embossed inscription: RPR can be read in the upper ray of the star . The reverse shows the three-line inscription: EROU / AL MUNCII (SOCIALISTE .

The medal was worn on the left chest of the borrower on a 22 mm wide gold clasp with a red ribbon. Two 2 mm wide central strips are woven into the ribbon on both sides. The award number can be read on the back of the carrying clip.
