Boroo gold mine

The Boroo gold mine is an open-pit mine for gold mining in Mongolia , which is located approx. 110 km northwest of the state capital Ulaanbaatar in the districts ( Sum ) Bajangol and Mandal of the northern Mongolian Selenge aimag (province).

The gold mine is 95% owned by the Canadian mining company Centerra Gold . Commercial production started in March 2004. By the end of 2006, more than 800,000 ounces (25 tons) of gold had been extracted. 35 km east of it is the Gatsuurt gold mine, which is 100% owned by Centerra Gold. Oxides and refractory ores from the Gatsuurt deposit are processed at Boroo's facilities.

According to Mongolian law, the company is exempt from certain taxes.

On May 25, 2009, the workforce's union officials announced work stoppages amid the company's reluctance to pay severance payments in connection with the imminent closure of the mine in 2010.
