Gold City Cup

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Goldstadtpokal is an international dance tournament in Pforzheim that has been held annually by the Black and White Club Pforzheim (SWC) since 1962 . The top prize of the tournament is the so-called "Goldstadtpokal".

history

The first dance tournament of this name took place in 1962 in the Jahnhalle in Pforzheim, a sports hall that the city refurbished for this festive purpose. The winner's cup did not come from a series production, but was - appropriate to the venue "Goldstadt" Pforzheim - a one-off production of the art and craft school . As early as 1966, when this trophy was designed, the idea that there are definitely two winners in a pair sport, that only one trophy does not do justice to the winning pair. From this year on, it was a basic requirement for the designers to elicit two drinking vessels from one cup in some way.

The initiator of the dance tournament was the then chairman of the black and white club Werner Dietrich , who was benevolently supported by the mayor of the time, Johann Peter Brandenburg .

An important role is played this sporting event also in the days of the Cold War for international understanding . The black and white club not only won international tournament pairs from Western Europe, but also pairs and formations from the Soviet Union, Czechoslovakia and Hungary.
