Johann Peter Brandenburg
Johann Peter Brandenburg (born March 25, 1905 in Kronenburg , † March 3, 1977 in Pforzheim ) was a German politician of the FDP / DVP . As Lord Mayor, he shaped the rebuilding of the city of Pforzheim after the Second World War.
Life and work
Brandenburg had studied law and worked as a lawyer in industry. In 1947 he founded the "Süddeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung" with Felix Richter , but sold his share again in the same year after he had been elected mayor . Since 1927 he was a member of the Catholic student union KDSt.V. Asgard Cologne. He was buried in the main cemetery in Pforzheim .
Political party
Brandenburg belonged to the "Democrats", that is, the FDP / DVP in Baden-Württemberg .
MP
From 1946 to 1952 Brandenburg was a member of the state parliament of Württemberg-Baden , then (with an interruption from 1956 to 1960) until 1976 in Baden-Württemberg . From 1960 to 1968 he was Vice President of the State Parliament . In 1969 the FDP / DVP parliamentary group elected him to be its chairman. He held this office until he left the state parliament.
Public offices
Brandenburg was Lord Mayor of Pforzheim from 1947 to 1966 , after having been honorary mayor since 1946. Today's cityscape of Pforzheim is mainly thanks to Brandenburg's work, as he was responsible for the reconstruction of the almost completely destroyed city. Brandenburg fought vehemently (not only as mayor, but also as a member of the state parliament) for a communal instead of a state police , because he considered the communal police to be closer to the citizens and also more effective than security forces centrally managed from Stuttgart.
On June 24, 1976 Brandenburg was elected judge at the State Court of Justice for the state of Baden-Württemberg in the group of members who were not qualified to hold judicial office. He held this office until his death.
Honors
When he resigned from the mayor's office, Brandenburg was granted honorary citizenship of the city of Pforzheim.
